If you're in the business of African tourism, or simply passionate about travel across the continent, you've likely heard of Africa Travel Indaba. Held in Durban from 12–15 May 2025, this trade show is the largest pan-African inbound event, bringing together a showcase of African and Indian Ocean tourism products for global buyers across every level of the market, “from budget to high-end.”
This year, Nox Cape Town was proudly represented by our Managing Director, Nick Taylor, and Sales Manager, Julie Gerber. Based at the ATTA® pavilion, a hub of activity throughout the event, they joined over 10,000 delegates for three action-packed days of networking, reconnecting, and promoting Cape Town as a premier destination for luxury villa stays.
Nick’s Take: “A packed schedule of high-impact meetings”
For Nick, the Indaba was all about connection, both with familiar trade partners and new faces alike.
Nick and Julie proudly represented Nox at this year’s Africa Travel Indaba, one of the continent’s leading tourism showcases, with over 10,000 delegates attending over the three days. Held in Durban, the event brought together key players across the global travel industry and offered a platform to promote Cape Town and the Nox portfolio to the broader market.
With a full diary of “high-impact meetings,” Nick noted the value of maintaining and growing partnerships that have been built over the last two decades.
“Unique for the global villas market, Nox has built these relationships over the past 20 years, which now account for over 30% of our booking value. Typically, our Travel Trade partners bring us a discerning, high-end profile of guests who are combining a Cape Town villa stay with another regional experience such as a safari or golfing trip.”
There was particular enthusiasm around Nox’s diverse property portfolio, which spans from centrally located apartments to fully serviced luxury villas.
“We were encouraged by the response to our fully managed portfolio of 240 villas and apartments, as well as the interest in our ultra premium Horizon Collection, which showcases 40 of South Africa's unique and special fully-serviced villas.”
Julie’s First Indaba: “Exciting and slightly nerve-wracking”
Julie stepped into her very first Indaba with a mix of nerves and anticipation, but it didn’t take long for that to settle.
“Attending the Africa Travel Indaba for the first time was an exciting and slightly nerve-wracking experience, but from the moment day one began, it was clear we were in for a productive and well-organised event.”
“Once settled at our ATTA workstation (conveniently located right across from a coffee station!), the scheduled meetings kicked off seamlessly.”
Julie gave kudos to the ATTA® team for their professionalism and efficiency, calling out how easy it was to navigate the show thanks to clear planning and communications.
“I was genuinely impressed by how efficiently ATTA coordinated everything, from the pre-scheduled meeting calendar and access cards to the timely updates shared via the ATTA WhatsApp group.”
The show’s diversity also stood out, with strong interest from multiple international markets.
“We had the opportunity to introduce our product to a diverse range of trade partners, with a strong focus on the German, North American, UK, Swedish, Benelux, and Russian markets. It was incredibly encouraging to see genuine interest and demand for private, short-term luxury accommodation rentals.”
For Julie, the event was more than just meetings, it was about shared purpose and the future of African tourism.
“Beyond the meetings, it was equally rewarding to reconnect with familiar faces and establish new relationships, all while sharing in the collective passion for African tourism.”
Looking Ahead
For us at Nox Cape Town, Africa Travel Indaba 2025 was a brilliant reminder of the energy and collaboration that fuels our industry.
