November in Cape Town marks the move from late spring into early summer, and the events calendar reflects the change of pace. The month opens with roaring engines at the Killarney Motor Show and closes with an open-air concert beneath Table Mountain at Kirstenbosch.

In between sit Afrikaans theatre, neo-soul, a gospel jazz orchestra, the city's first dedicated coffee show, a new food festival and the official start of the festive season. ### Killarney Motor Show

The annual Killarney Motor Show returns to Killarney International Raceway for a full day of motorsport entertainment. The programme includes drifting, spinning and off-road displays, freestyle motocross from the daredevils of Freestyle Productions, stunts, live music and a wide choice of food and drink.

Visitors can ride in a drift car, take on a one-kilometre karting circuit, test drive the latest models, or head to the fun fair, where rides cater to all ages.

With more than 2000 displays, vendors and interactive experiences, the show covers new cars, bakkies, motorcycles and accessories, Cape Town's street car culture, lovingly restored classics and dozens of racing vehicles, alongside hundreds of stalls selling motoring accessories and memorabilia.

## Theatre and Stage

### Nataniël: SOOIBRAND

Nataniël brings his latest Afrikaans stage show, SOOIBRAND, to Artscape, combining storytelling, humour and new music. The show draws on everyday discomfort, guilt and denial, looking at modern arrogance and inherited habits with the mix of close observation and compassion that has become his trademark.

Pianist Charl du Plessis, a Steinway Artist with a doctorate in piano performance from the University of Pretoria, joins him on stage, as he has for more than two decades.

The production is performed entirely in Afrikaans and blends new original music with reworked melodies and freshly written stories. It runs for 90 minutes without an interval and is not suitable for children under 14.

### Swing With The King

Swing With The King returns to the Artscape Opera House for its third annual staging, bringing together gospel jazz, big band and Cape Ghoema music alongside a full orchestra. 

Soloists include Hilton Schilder, Julius May, American vocalist Roz Parker, Wesley Rustin, Clinton Viljoen and Natasha Adams, supported by a ten-piece horn section led by Muneeb Hermans and an eight-piece string section led by Rayelle Goodman.

Earlier editions opened with a video sequence tracing South African cultural history from Khoisan roots to the present day, framing the concert as a journey through memory and heritage as much as a performance.

### Jill Scott: To Whom This May Concern

Neo-soul great Jill Scott has announced her "To Whom This May Concern" world tour, and the final stops are Pretoria and Cape Town. The Cape Town show is expected to include many of the hits that made her a household name, among them 'Golden' and 'So In Love'.

Scott first rose to prominence with her 2000 debut album, 'Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1', which went platinum and introduced listeners to her blend of soul, jazz and R&B. Several standout tracks from the album quickly built her a loyal following.

### Leon Bridges at Kirstenbosch

November closes with its biggest international concert. Leon Bridges brings The Happiness Anytime Tour to Kirstenbosch, with Msaki, one of South Africa's finest singer-songwriters, as the support act. 

This is a classic Kirstenbosch evening. Gates open at 18:00, the concert starts at 19:00 and finishes at 22:00.

Guests are welcome to bring a picnic, a blanket or low-back chair, and their own wine and beer, and food trucks are on site for those who prefer not to carry dinner. The concert goes ahead rain or shine; the venue is non-smoking, and all rubbish needs to be taken home.

### Cape Town Coffee Show

Cape Town takes its coffee seriously, and from this year the city has a show of its own. The first Cape Town Coffee Show takes over Newlands Cricket Ground for a weekend, with a Roasters Village at its centre where South African roasters set up side by side for tastings, cuppings, workshops and demonstrations.

The African School of Coffee is the education partner, making it a good place to find out what a cupping score actually means, or why home espresso rarely matches the version served at a favourite café.

Around the roasters there are patisseries, bake bars and food trucks, plus live music and brands from across the country. Saturday runs an hour longer than Sunday. Children under 12 enter free, which makes it an easy family outing.

### Taste of Cape Town

Taste of Cape Town is the South African edition of the Taste Festival series, a food and lifestyle event that has previously been held in London, Paris, Dubai and São Paulo. The inaugural Cape Town edition, produced by The Allure Group and themed "Taste the Crown", runs over two days at Green Point Cricket Club.

The format pairs a curated selection of restaurants, each serving signature dishes created specially for the festival, with a live chef programme that includes open fire demonstrations, Cook School masterclasses and chef sessions.

An artisan market features South African food and drink producers, and live music and entertainment run across both days. VIP and premium hospitality experiences are available at higher ticket tiers. Organisers point to Cape Town's recognition as the world's best food city in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards as central to the reasoning behind the festival.

## Community and Festive Events

### Streetopia

Streetopia is presented by AfrikaBurn in collaboration with Observatory residents and civic organisations. The annual event brings communities and creatives together for a day of colour, creativity and good vibrations, with the streets filled with art, sculpture, mutant vehicles, performances, music and market stalls. It is free, and everyone is invited.

The aim is to keep the event villagey, intimate and spontaneous, open to collaboration and a space for social causes and activism. Streetopia is designed to benefit and form part of the local community, and its schedule leaves enough time for crew and volunteers to clear the area and remove all decor and installations, leaving it in better condition than it was found.

### Festive Lights Switch-On

The Festive Lights Switch-On is Cape Town's biggest free night out and the official start of the city's festive season. On Sunday 29 November, the Grand Parade in front of City Hall fills with families and friends for a free open-air concert by well-known South African artists, building towards the moment the lights along Adderley Street come on.

There is also a new tradition this year. Through the City's "Wear the Hope, Share the Light" challenge, residents were invited to design a festive garment for the mayor, and the winning design is presented to the mayor on 11 November, so it may well appear on stage at the switch-on.

With a very large crowd expected, it helps to travel light, agree a meeting point in case of separation, and take MyCiTi or the train rather than trying to park in the city centre.
