While the weather may be cooler, the Mother City is alive with winter energy: think ballet and Bollywood, cold-water swims, sustainable food tours, and a heavy metal festival that shakes the rain right off your boots. Whether you’re here to soak up culture, break a sweat, or simply see a side of Cape Town you haven’t met yet, here’s what’s happening this July.

## Entertainment & Culture

### **WinterFest – For the Metalheads**

A local legend in its own right, *WinterFest* is back on **26 July**, bringing with it a storm of African heavy metal, DJs, and subculture flair. Expect two entertainment areas, seven bands (including **Doom Trigger**, **Marene**, **Terroraze**, and **Dreadlines**), and plenty of headbanging vibes.

### Comedy on Kloof – Laugh Through the Cold

If your idea of warmth is good food, cold drinks, and a room full of people in stitches, *Comedy on Kloof* is your weekly fix. Every Tuesday until **29 July**, some of South Africa’s sharpest comedians, plus the occasional surprise international act, take the mic at **Vortex Shisha** in Gardens.

### The Return of Green Point Flea Market

After a 15-year break, the **Green Point Flea Market** has returned to its original home, just a short walk from the stadium. Around 200 traders are back, many continuing family businesses that began here decades ago. It’s more than just shopping – it’s heritage in motion.

### Swan Lake – Cape Town City Ballet & Joburg Ballet Unite

A rare collaboration between **Cape Town City Ballet** and **Joburg Ballet**, this grand staging of *Swan Lake* marks the first joint performance in nearly three decades. It’s sweeping, emotive, and as close to a fairytale as you’ll get this side of Table Mountain.

*Romeo and Juliet* gets a vibrant Bollywood twist in **Taare’s new production, Kismet**. With bold choreography, colourful costumes, and a universal story of love and loss, it’s a treat whether you’re a Shakespeare fan, a Bollywood buff,  or just in it for the dancing.

### Cape Town Festival of Running

One for the runners,  or spectators who enjoy coffee on the Sea Point Promenade. The **Festival of Running** returns with a **50km ultra**, **21km half-marathon**, and a **5x5km relay**. The vibe is supportive and community-driven, and there’s even a junior event.

### HYROX Cape Town – The Ultimate Indoor Challenge

Think you’ve got grit? HYROX is back in Cape Town at the **CTICC**, with athletes taking on eight functional workouts, each split by a 1km run. Expect everything from elite competitors to first-timers – plus a proper stadium vibe indoors.

### 36ONE Clifton Mile Swim – Brave the Atlantic

Yes, people *do* swim in Cape Town’s winter. If you’re keen to try it for yourself, the **Clifton Mile Swim** is a brilliant entry point (and photo op). The **SplashDash** and **Lapper** are perfect for newcomers, while the full **Mile Swim** is a bucket-list item for open water enthusiasts.
