New Year's Eve in Cape Town is one of the most anticipated nights on the city's calendar. With warm summer weather, the Atlantic on one side and Table Mountain on the other, the Mother City offers everything from public family countdowns to large-scale festivals and quiet spots with a view of the fireworks.
Whether the plan is a big night out, an early evening with the children or a calm seaside welcome to 2027, there is an option to suit every group.
The V&A Waterfront hosts Cape Town's best-known public countdown, and it is designed with families in mind. Midnight brings a controlled, five-minute fireworks display that takes an eco-conscious approach, while live music and festive lighting set the mood across the harbour.
The line-up is yet to be announced, so following the Waterfront's social media channels is the best way to stay informed.
Several spots offer a full view of the main stage and its musical acts:

Public drinking restrictions apply on many beaches and open areas outside licensed restaurants and venues, so it is best to check local rules before heading out.
Summer clothing suits the day, but the wind picks up quickly after dark, particularly at vantage points. A windbreaker or warm layer is a sensible addition.
